(Too) Long META Descriptions ...
From a technical perspective, there is no limit or restriction on the maximum number of characters or length of a META description. However, it is recommended not to overdo it and not to randomly flood the description with keywords. By default, the program uses a threshold of a maximum of 320 characters, but you can adjust this value to your needs in the "Website Settings". The maximum number of characters or maximum length currently set for the website is displayed in square brackets after "Long META Descriptions".
If you search for the optimal length, you often get the answer 155-160 characters. This information usually comes from SEO sites, which refer to the maximum number of characters that can be displayed in Google search results for a desktop search. It should be noted that the META description is often displayed in the search results below the page title. If the description is too long for Google search, it will be cut off and "..." will be added. However, there is no guarantee that the description will be used in search results. Sometimes the search results also display a description created by the search engine itself based on the page content. So if you want to strictly adhere to the "SEO" guidelines, you should choose a maximum length of 155 characters. You can set the search threshold accordingly in the "Website Settings".
You can edit the META name="description" either in your web editor, CMS system or directly in the source code of the HTML page:
<meta name="description" content="As is well known, the fundamental law of the mechanics of Galilei-Newton, which is known as the law of inertia, can be stated thus: a body removed sufficiently far from other bodies continues in a state of rest or of uniform motion in a straight line. This law not only says something about the motion of the bodies, but it also indicates the reference-bodies or systems of coordinates, permissible in mechanics, which can be used in mechanical description. The visible fixed stars are bodies for which the law of inertia certainly holds to a high degree of approximation.">
