The Internet Calendaring and Scheduling Core Object Specification (iCalendar) is a format that allows users to store and exchange calendar and scheduling information such as events and appointments. iCalendar files (*.ics) appear as attachments in email messages and contain calendar information, such as an appointment. This can be used for automatic appointment transfer. The recipient opens the iCalendar attachment and the new appointment is added to the recipient's calendar without the recipient having to enter the data manually.
The iCalendar format is accepted by almost all major calendar programs, including:
- Apple iPhone (iOS Calendar)
- Google Calendar
- Android Calendar
- Microsoft Outlook
- BlackBerry Calendar
- macOS Calendar
